Paperless Technology

The increasing use of computers and paperless technology has improved the world, including in the medical field. When you went to see your doctor, your physician would need to roam through files and dozens of pages of background information, and, after your visit, you would get a little slip of paper for a prescription with chicken-scratch handwriting on it. However, more recently, physicians have moved towards a state of paperless technology to streamline patient care.

The use of online prescriptions

Thanks to common wireless internet, doctors can easily fill prescriptions for you right from their offices. Instead of writing scribble on a prescription pad, the doctor can now search for a nearby pharmacy and type in prescription information for a patient during the visit on a mobile tablet PC or iPad. This improves unnecessary wait times for the patient when picking up medications and reduces the chance of misinterpreted prescriptions due to poor handwriting.

Ease of looking up and sharing medical history

With patient medical history moved from paper to electronic forms, doctors can easily look up a patient's past problems with health. Keyword searches and online red flags help to alert physicians about important past history and current medications for a particular patient, to optimize care and reduce the possiblity of creating dangerous drug interactions or allergic reactions for the patient. In addition, it is easy to share records with other doctors when the patient needs to go to another specialist for care.

Paperless offices for physicians have streamlined health care. Going paperless makes it far easier for a doctor to review a patient's medical history to provide more knowledgeable care, and it makes it easier for the patient to get necessary prescriptions.
